More kerosene, LPG for flood-hit Bihar...

Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora on Monday announced a “relief package” for Bihar, which included enhanced quota of kerosene oil and an increased supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).

Following a request for petroleum products by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Mr. Deora directed CEOs of oil marketing companies (OMCs) to extend all possible help to the flood-affected people and the State government in the hour of crisis.

The Minister also sanctioned an additional 10,000 tonnes of superior kerosene oil for the flood-affected areas as requested by the Chief Minister.

The State’s demand for LPG would be honoured at any cost, whatever be the quantity. Free LPG would be provided in relief camps set up by the government and the NGOs.

The OMCs would also provide essential relief material such as tents and medicine worth Rs.5 crore through the State government-accredited agencies such as the Red Cross Society of India.

Mr. Deora said the retail outlets of the OMCs would be made available for extending relief and assistance to the flood-affected people.

“We will consider any other request by the State government positively and act promptly. We are with the people of Bihar in his tragedy,” he said.
