SEZ to be set up for IT companies...
The state IT minister, Mr Debesh Das, today said the state government will set up a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for small and medium scale IT companies.
He reiterated that the service providers who are eager to set up their manufacturing units at the SEZ do not have to pay sales tax.
Mr Das added that even if the state government joins hands with the private partners in the form of public private partnership, a portion of the land will be earmarked for small and medium scale companies.
Speaking at a function organised by Export Promotion Council, Mr Das, said: “Since the land price is high, many small and medium enterprises do not have the required fund to buy the land hence we have decided that we will allot land for the small and medium enterprise.”
Experts are of the opinion that the minimum amount of land required to build an IT SEZ will be around 25 acres of land and if the government sets up a SEZ for the small and medium enterprise, it will definitely benefit the entrepreneurs associated with small and medium scale enterprises.
When asked if the state government will frame any policies for setting up SEZ for the small and medium scale enterpriseS, Mr Das, said, “We had already set up a SEZ policy and setting up of SEZ for the small and medium scale enterprises will be included in the existing policy.”
Affirming that the export from SEZ has increased over the years, Mr Das said, “Export from SEZs this year was Rs 66,638 crore and it has increased considerably compared to last years export,” he said.
Emphasising that there is a need for the small and medium IT enterprises in the state, “We require more small and medium scale companies for the development of IT in the state.”
Moreover experts also said that the export oriented unit scheme (EOU) has played a very important role in the last 25 years in creating manufacturing facilities and generating employment. Exports from EOUs during the year 2007-08 were to the extent of Rs 1,42,211 crore showing a growth of 103 % over last year.
